The Healing Ministries Committee is a group of individuals who
are united by gratitude for the gifts we have received from God
through others, especially the friendship and support we gain
from Lafayette Christian Church. Our aim in working together
is to help extend Christ’s compassion, love and healing
touch to some of those outside our community who have critical
needs.
The growing disparity in health and wealth between the rich
and poor and the efficiency of the media and internet in bringing
us news of crises across the globe mean that it is easy to become
overwhelmed by the problems around us. But we are emboldened
by the parable of the Good Samaritan to believe that we can each
make a difference, even on a one-to-one basis.
By sharing our concerns and talents we can enhance our effectiveness,
especially by also working through other agencies that understand
the special needs of our neighbors, near and far, and can mobilize
the resources needed to provide solutions to the toughest of
challenges. Examples of recent collaborations are:
- Juvenile Hall Auxiliary - bringing touches of supportive
home life to troubled teenagers.
- Winter Nights Program – providing shelter for
families made homeless in Contra Costa County
- STAND – supporting victims of domestic violence
- Habitat for Humanity – building affordable houses
for the homeless
- Week of Compassion – rebuilding lives devastated
by Hurricane Katrina
- Contra Costa Food Bank – feeding destitute families
among this “affluent” area
- Church World Services – supporting refugees in
Darfur and elsewhere
- Global Ministries – providing medical services and
seed funds for economic sustainability in some of the poorest
nations across the globe
We would be delighted if you could join us, whether you have
additional concerns to share with us, or you wish to pitch in
on one of our current projects. For further information,
call the church office at 925-283-3804.
