The Mary Daniel Award was established 38 years ago as a way for the women of LCC to come together and pay tribute to one among us as a woman of great spirit, faith, and commitment to the church.

The Mary Daniel Award was named in honor of Mary Daniel, who was the first recipient of LCC’s Woman of the Year award in 1987, and who passed away in 1988.

Mary Daniel was descended from Disciples; her grandfather had founded several Disciples of Christ churches all over the state of Georgia. She herself was a lifetime Disciple who was always active and committed to whatever church she attended. She joined LCC in her later years, where she served as Elder, Convenor of Elders, Sunday School teacher for 4-5 year-olds, SAIL leader, Christian Ed chairperson and on the Love Circle Stirring Committee, as well as many other tasks.

Mary’s legacy lives in her daughter, Mary Alice Donaldson, her granddaughter, Kathy Rapmund, and her great-granddaughter, Mary Beth Rapmund. In 2005, Mary Alice and Kathy were each honored for their own loving commitment of service to LCC.
