Compassion and Justice News

C&J has been busy sending out checks in LCC’s name.  It’s still early in the fiscal year, but so far, we have supported the following worthy projects, much of it from our $4800 in PEF money:

 

To teachers connected to our LCC family to help with classroom set-up costs ($125 each):

To two organizations defending immigrant rights ($500 each):

  • La Raza Centro Legal in San Francisco

  • Obra Hispana (Disciples Hispanic Ministries)

 

To three food banks assisting in the disruptions caused by the recent shutdown ($500 each):

  • Food Bank of Contra Costa/Solano

  • Loaves and Fishes

  • Meals on Wheels Diablo Region

​

To two organizations involved in housing et al ($500 each):

  • East Bay Housing Organization - advocacy and education on affordable housing (preservation, production and protection)

  • Multifaith Action Coalition - advocacy on housing, food insecurity, immigration, health care, & racial justice 

 

We also are sponsoring the Spirit of Giving tree with Hope Solutions.  And we’re monitoring the growth in our goat “investment” in Malawi.
