Exciting News! Improvements Coming To Founders Grove!

The Memorial Gift Committee is planning to fund improvements to Founders Grove, which is such a beautiful part of our property and which has the potential to offer greater possibilities for future events and activities for both our LCC community and the larger community.  It will also increase accessibility and access to the Grove area.

Scope of the Project

The pathway from the end of the parking lot, into the Grove and extending to the Pergola, will be done in pavers (to match the pavers on the pathway from the Patio Area behind Marion Hall to the Pergola).  This will increase accessibility in general, especially for people who use walkers, wheelchairs or mobilized equipment.

On the inside of the pathway, the existing Memorial Bricks (from the Eaton Memorial Garden which have been safely stored since they were removed from their initial placement in the courtyard area between the Sanctuary and Marion Hall), plus new bricks will be laid over a concrete base beside the pavers.  The top of the bricks will be at the same level as the pavers so there will not be a safety issue.

The area around the Pergola will be expanded to allow for people to stand or for chairs to be placed on a more solid surface than exists currently.  The surface will be crushed granite in a color that complements the surrounding leaf/ground area.  The concern for the roots of the trees in that area is paramount--an arborist has been consulted and the roots will be protected.

A committee of Gerd Pannke, Kim Pannke, Stephanie Rilley, Robyn Van de Cater, and Kathy Nolan, Jacque Smith (co-chairs of the Gift Committee) has met to consider options.  The scope of the project has been shared with Carol Anderson and Mary Alice Donaldson (members of the Gift Committee), Connie Couts, (Moderator), Don Stump (Stewardship & Finance), Dave Pinkham (Property), Kelley Lawton (liaison to GLMS)  Diana Silva (Bookkeeper) and the LCC Board.   Gerd Pannke will serve as the Project Manager.

Over the past number of years, the Memorial Gift Committee has received gifts specifically for these kinds of improvements. They have accumulated to the point we feel we can move ahead with the project.  We are excited that the gifts given to the Memorial Fund will be used in the ways they were intended, that the memorial bricks will be visible and a reminder of those who have paved the way, and that the improvements will enhance the accessibility and increased use of the Grove Area.

You are invited to purchase a Memorial Brick for a family member to be placed with existing bricks in Founder's Grove.  You can place a check in the offering plate during worship, with a notation: Memorial Bricks.  You can give or send a check with to Diana Silva at the church office with the same notation. The cost is $150.00/brick.

A $1000.00 gift has been made specifically for this project.  If you would also like to make a gift, please do so by sending a check with the notation  Founders Grove Development Fund to Diana Silva at the church office.

Watch for future updates!
