LAFAYETTE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
a movement for wholeness
Beloved Church,
A chapter in our life together that mattered deeply is ending. Change even when it is necessary or faith-full can be deeply unsettling. I am feeling gratitude, exhaustion, uncertainty, sadness and hope all at the same time. I trust that whatever you and I are feeling is understandable. It is okay to feel tired. But our determined striving is the best evidence of our vitality.
Transitions always carry grief and ask a lot of a congregation. They ask for patience, trust, and a willingness to live with unanswered questions for a while. Please be gentle with yourselves—and with one another. We don’t have to have everything figured out right now. We only have to keep walking together.
Leadership will change—but who you are as a spiritual community and friends does not vanish with a change of pastors. You are so much more than a season of change. More than any one voice. More than any one way of doing things. You are a people shaped by prayer, practice, and showing up for one another over time. This kind of faith does not depend on perfection or “polish”. It depends on Presence—and you already know how to do this.
I have watched you love one another in ordinary, kind ways. I’ve seen you show up when it would have been easier to stay home. I’ve watched you hold joy and sorrow side by side in celebrations of life.
We show up; pay attention to what our hearts know; we tell the truth with love and respect and stay open to outcome. It is the Hero’s Journey in mythology—it is the true journey of a mature and resilient community.
As Remi reminded us . . . God remains steady even when our circumstances shift. Our congregation remains steady and searching even when our circumstances evolve. Our foundation is not in any one leader, but in the faith we share, the relationships we have built, and the call to ministry that we continue to live out together. We call upon God’s constant grace and love for Remi and their family and for each of us as we live as disciples honoring God’s grace known to all of us.
On the journey together,
Faye
